keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is the most common eye disorder and is the result of a decline in the quantity or quality of tears produced. There are two types of tears produced in the eyes: lubricating tears that moisturize and protect your pet's eyes from infections and reflex tears are a response to environmental stimuli (dust, smoke), or injury. Interestingly enough, 'watery' eyes can be a symptom of KCS. Irritants that cause KCS can trigger the production of reflex tears. However, since reflex tears do not have the proper lubricating composition, the discomfort remains. Common causes of KCS include: aging, hormonal fluctuations, environmental conditions, disease and medication complications
