EquineVet Acemannan Smart Gel regulates the amount of moisture present. Its “intelligent” response allows the gel to either donate moisture to dry wounds or absorb exudate from wet wounds.
It absorbed approximately 4 times its weight in water while retaining a "gel-like consistency" after 48 hours.
The Acemannan Hydrogel containing EquineVet Acemannan Smart Gel provides a moist wound environment. It is this moist wound environment which is beneficial for production of autologous growth factors (cytokines) and maintanence of naturally occuring growth factors, essential for cell development, assists with autolytic debridement, encourages epithelialization and enables macrophage activation. Macrophages help remove necrotic debris and stimulate the release of growth factors (cytokines). Released cytokines stimulate fibroblast proliferation starting the proliferative phase of healing. Fibroblasts make collagen and new blood vessels resulting in granulation tissue which fills in the defect. Fibroblasts promote epithelization and the maturation phase of healing. Fibroblasts become myofibroblasts to help pull wound edges together.
Indications: For the management of all types of equine wounds such as cuts, abrasions, post surgical incisions, first and second degree burns and other skin irritations. Acemannan Smart Gel relieves pain by coating, cooling and protecting the wound while it regulates the amount of moisture present by either donating moisture or absorbing exudate.
Ingredients: Acemannan Hydrogel, benzethonium chloride, glycerin, glyceryl polymethacrylate, methylparaben, propylparaben, propylene glycol, purified water
Directions: Clip excess hair from wound area and clean wound with an appropriate wound cleanser. Apply a thin layer of Acemannan Smart Gel to the affected area, including wound edges. Any suitable wound covering can be applied over Acemannan Gel to help maintain a moist wound environment. Apply as often as necessary.
