Grasslands offer great grazing for horses. However, with
some older animals, they could not be getting the nutrients they need
because they do not absorb them as readily as they did when they were
younger. There are products on the market that can help with this problem,
though. They aid in the absorption of nutrients and fatty acids. These
products are also good for animals with excessive shedding or poor coats,
skin problems, gas, allergies, and ones with immune disorders..
Pasturing
your animal is one way to keep it healthy, with another being providing
shelter for it to go to escape the cold, flies, sun, or other environmental
factors. However, these are just the basics and your steed requires
more attention than that. They need annual vaccinations to protect them
from contagious diseases (some of which can be fatal). They also need
medicine, taken orally, every two months (at the minimum) to kill intestinal
parasites. Your riding habits or usage of your mount as a workhorse
can create needs for shoeing, with the particular schedule depending
on the kind of surfaces rode on and the amount of work done. Other body
parts need attention, too, like their teeth which may require filing.
