Seasonal Horse Pasture Care

While most areas with mild winters can offer horses the ability to graze in the winter, the areas with very cold winters must offer hay to their animals. Depending on the mount, their activity level, and where they are housed, they will also have other needs like grain. They must always have access to mineral salt blocks and water to stay healthy, in all seasons. Keep an eye on your steed's weight and health in order to help you judge that you are making the best decisions for your animal's particular breed and temperament. And, of course, seek veterinary assistance when needed..

Horse Shelter Needs

Needs for shelter vary widely based on climate, breed, and temperament. Generally, most can be left in the meadow or grassy area you have fenced in to keep them on your property. However, the particular ones used for show are treated differently than your common workhorse or trail walker. Stalls offer protection from the elements, keep them clean, and protect them from injury. These stalls must be cleaned daily to keep them clean and fresh bedding like straw or sawdust must be put down. However, if stabled, regular exercise must be provided to keep them healthy and happy..
